Cape Canaveral Florida in Brief

Posted on: October 21, 2008

Most famous as the home of America’s launch pad, Kennedy Space Center, Cape Canaveral Florida is a city in Brevard County, Florida. Located at the northern end of a barrier island on the Atlantic coast of Florida, Cape Canaveral is part of a region known as the “Space Coast”, since all of the manned United States spacecraft are launched from the Space Center on nearby Merritt Island. It is due south of the geographical feature Cape Canaveral (known as Cape Kennedy from 1963 to 1973) and is separated from the mainland by the Banana River, Merritt Island and the Indian River from east to West.

For cruise liners, Port Canaveral is an important port which takes on passengers here for cruises to the Caribbean. Cape Canaveral has a mixed population of races including White, African American, Native American, Asian, Pacific Islander and other races. Regardless of race, Hispanics or Latinos constitutes 3.48% of the population.

Being the home of the John F. Kennedy Space Center, Cape Canaveral is located halfway between Miami and Jackville along the Atlantic seacoast. Bounded on the north by Port Canaveral, on the east by the Atlantic Ocean, on the south by Cocoa Beach and on the west by the Banana River, there are many things to see and do, to begin with a tour of the Kennedy Space Center and Astronaut Hall Fame. At south of the Cape Canaveral is the Cocoa Beach where you can go for swimming, sunbathing, walking or jogging. You can also go for golfing, fishing, boating, or kayaking off the Banana River islands. Home to the largest Las Vegas style gaming cruise ship in the world, Port Canaveral is the busiest port in the world.
